April 27 VIP

We were so busy this week, it was awesome! We visited a ton of people! We are making popcorn for our movie night with the Gentreys tonight so we have to hurry because whoa, we got a lot to do so! Any who, the worst thing that happened this week was my USB got a virus so I lost almost all of my photos from my mission. Yep... I cried... then I prayed... at 1st I thought it was something too little or dumb to pray to God about but right after I prayed, I was comforted because for me, my mission pictures are really important! Thats memories! And it was nice to feel Him comforting me because it was important to me, it is important to Him. I haven't been able to find any of my photos but hey, hopefully some of y'all can send me some I've sent out or something after my mission so I can have a few. :)

Alrighty another thing I lost this week was my wallet. I am the best at losing stuff. We called Elder McQueen that I didn't want to drive without knowing where my license was so Sister Owsley was like, "You goody good." Whatever haha well she was the driver. After being driven around everywhere, it was so nice just chilling in the passenger seat, I begged Elder McQueen to make her designated driver and he did! He warned me thought that owsley being the DD actually stands for "Dangerous death" Haha shes a crazy driver but I don't have to drive anymore, its fabulous! Anywho, I left my wallet at Lula's and she answered phone like, "How much you got in it!?" It was hilarious. Only old ladies can get away with sounding abrasive and whatnot.  While we were at her house she asked us to sing for her. We stood up and like she asked, we sang for her. Before we knew it, Sister Owsley and I were dancing and Singing, having a grand old time! & Lula was bustin up! She said, "If I weren't old, I'd join you!" We should have our own show ;) (btw, we sang in Stake Conference this week, people said we did great so... I'm just gonna trust them on that) After our talent performance for Lula we then did service for Carley. We finished her stairs and Rose was my helper. She pointed out every hole in the wood that I needed to fill. ;) After finishing the stairs, Carley started to ask us questions... Questions that I have been waiting for her to ask since I got here! Months ago she said she didn't want to learn more but we believe Heavenly Father softened her heart big time. She was asking us simple yet bold questions. Her concern is every other church she has been part of has been run by man... so she believes religion is only for people who want all your time and money... but we were able to testify that we know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is different than any other church because it is Christ Church once again restored to the earth. It is His... and unlike anytime before, she listened. We read the Book of Mormon introduction and invited her to read and pray about it, and she said Yes! It was a great testimony builder to me to know that simple questions like, "Is your Church run by man? Is the heirachy of your church perfect?" I can answer with power because I know those answers. I know it in my heart. His Church is run by Him and that His Church is perfect. So cool that the Holy Ghost testified to her heart that what we are sharing is true. Not everyone can do that, not everyone can say I know this is Christ Church yet because we do know that, we can! Which is why it was such a neat experience for me because I know this is His Church, I know I am a member of Christ's church, and that His church is led by Him, and when I testify of these things, there is power behind my words, power not from me. I am grateful for this knowledge and so grateful for how the spirit touched her heart. Something clicked. :)

Another miracle this week is Elder Blake R. Alder came to our stake conference and he visited the Gentreys. A family that we have been trying so hard to progress. Elder Alder visited them and whatever he did for them or invited them to do, increased John's desire to learn about the gospel. The Gentreys are a part member family, in active, and the parents aren't married, and said they aren't going to get married because of finances and cash they receive from the state... Anyway, Elder & Sister Alder touched their hearts. The Gentreys came to both sessions of stake conference and the members were so warm and welcoming! Some of the Sisters volunteered to watch their babies so they could enjoy the conference. How sweet is that? These awesome women were more than willing to miss conference for themselves so that the Gentreys could experience it and because they could focus on the conference and feel the spirit, their hearts were changed. The Gentreys seemed to be glowing and looked so happy to be there. We felt so lucky that we got to sit by them. After conference was over, Elder Alder walked up to us and the Gentreys and committed them to take the lessons and let us come over at least 3 times a week. John said yes and I wanted to cry I was so happy for them, Sharyl was so happy! Elder Alder after put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Now, you get them to the waters of baptism." I replied, "We will and more." He got what I meant and replied, "Exactly! Help them get to the temple!" :D We set up dinner with the Gentreys and after dinner we shared the Book of Mormon and invited John to be baptized on June 6th. He said, "Yes, and while we were at conference the spirit whispered to me what I needed to do to be a better father. We need to get married, we might even get married tomorrow! And I promised Elder Alder that I would meet with you sisters and listen. I keep my promises." So YAY! The Gentreys are getting married! & Not only that but they as a family are going to try to come to church everyweek and pray morning and night. It was nothing short of a miracle. Seriously, the Gentreys needed to be at stake conference and I am so grateful that our Stake President and Elder Alder were inspired to visit them and helped them recognize and feel the spirit.

Okay, one last thing, after stake conference Elder & Sister Alder took a picture with us and invited us to dinner with them. We felt like we were in the VIP section! :D President even bragged about us to them! And so did the members! We felt so loved! Sister Owsley and I were just like, "All we are doing is trying... whoa." I'm not saying this to brag at all, it was just neat because almost always, no one ever says anything about the good you do or try to do. Quiet discipleship... and then to feel appreciated and loved it was really neat... And Sister Alder gave us one of the best compliments I have ever received. She complimented me on my countenance. She said, "I don't use this word lightly, you are special. You radiate with the spirit. My husband and I yesterday saw you while we were sitting on the stand and we could both feel your presence and see your light. There are not many who have that gift, treasure it." Talk about feeling on top of the world! Sister Owsley and I felt like we were living a dream!

This week was fantastic, set baptism dates got new investigators (who I thought because they had rejected us once that they'd reject us again! But I was so wrong! :D) and we both grew spiritually. We didn't need the appreciation for the ward, President, or other leaders (even though it was really nice haha) we came to feel and understand that the most important person we strive to please is our Father in Heaven. And that He hears us and speaks to us in our language and understanding, He speaks to our heart. I am so grateful to be serving a mission. For the change of heart it has brought to me & others. I am coming closer to Christ everyday and I am understanding more of who I am because of Him. I know He knows me and I want to Know Him. I know He lives but I truly want to understand and Know more of who He is. I want to be pure in heart, I want to be more like Him.

Psalm 19:7-9 "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."

PS: Cool thing I learned this week; when we partake of the sacrament we aren't just renewing our baptism covenants but all of our covenants. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is eternal & God's glory is all around us.

You Look Sick!! April 20 2015

We worked out this morning, felt so good! Anyway, I'm kinda super exhausted but I'm happy. I pass out dead every night but for some reason I am still exhausted lately and then on top of that I got really sick yesterday. We went to meet with bishop Teichert and he said, "You look sick." I was like, "Dang it! I caked on my makeup today so no one could tell." Bishop, "You should let yourself rest." :/ Ya know its awful when people tell you you look sick or tired... I mean what do I say to that, "Thanks" or "Thats just my face" Haha Anyway, Sister Owsley told me to rest but I couldn't get myself to do it, then Bishop said that and yeah, after church I tried to rest but still couldn't do it, I just tossed and turned in bed for an hour thinking, "I must work!" I feel like I'm wasting the Lords time when I rest but at the same time I don't want to look like death... so yep, hopefully my body will catch up on some sleep today, I will sleep while I'm getting my hair done haha

We did a lot of service this week. We redid all of Carley's bathroom and guest bedroom because her in-laws are coming to visit from England. Rose is my little buddy, she makes my day! I can never be sad when I see her! She thinks I'm so awesome, which then makes me feel so awesome haha :)

We set a baptism date with the Wasylows! Scott is very supportive of his girls getting baptized but doesn't feel he needs to be... Please pray for Scott to recognize the blessings of the gospel for him and his family. He is a wonderful dad and loves his family. Its been a miracle that he has even been sitting in on the lessons though! :)

BEST PART OF THE WEEK!! & one of the highlights of my mission!! ~ It was 8:50 and we still had 10 minutes before curfew, we could just go home early but nope, we weren't gonna do it, that thought came and went, so we pulled over, prayed, & well we parked right in front of an inactive part member family's home. Felt like we should visit them, so we did. We knock on the door and Sister M lets us right in. Her husband isn't a member and quickly left when he saw our name tags. He is pretty anit... Well, we came into her home, saw pictures on her kitchen table, she was looking at pictures when her kids were little, and there was one of her standing in front of the temple. As she talked I felt that I should just listen. She explained how she hasn't gone to church for years because her family comes to visit her on the weekend and she feels 3 hours of church is 3 less hours with her family, but her heart knows that church is where she is suppose to be. She explained how while she was raising her kids, she always took her kids to church, husband never supported it but she always took her kids despite his lack of support and negativity towards it. None of her kids are active now and she feels its all her fault but that she did the best she could. And she was so worried about her son in the navy getting deployed. I could feel her pain, I could see her pain, and its not her fault that her kids aren't active, she is a fantastic mother, and she raised them right and they know that she knows the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. As Sister M spoke, I could feel the Saviors love for her and a scripture came to my mind, clear as day. I am so grateful I listened. I had to share it with her. As she softly spoke, she stopped when she saw me flip through the pages of my scriptures. Our eyes met, and I knew that what I was about to read was exactly for her. I read Alma 56:17-48 and related it to her and her children, "Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." Tears streamed down her face and down ours. Sister M said, "Its funny you girls came tonight... because... well... a few months ago I stopped reading my scriptures, I haven't gone to church for years but I always read my scriptures, I read something that just bugged me so I stopped, then I stopped praying and today after months... I prayed. I poured my heart out to Heavenly Father and pleaded for help and direction... and then you girls show up. You show up... He sent you for me. He heard my prayer." <3 I can't tell you how strong that hit me. He does hear our prayers and I got to be an answer to hers. <3 Our sweet tears came from feeling the Lords arms wrapped around each one of us and I came to feel the true meaning of Luke14:7 "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance." I felt that joy over Sister M that night.
I know He hears our prayers  and I learned this week that even if something may be silly or small, if its important to me, its important to Him. <3

#13 My Lucky Number

Sister Owsley has been sick a lot and we think we have finally found out why. We went to Idaho falls for an emergency appointment with the mission doctor, (& guess who drove us! The Ippolitos and Hank!!! Whoop Whoop!) We found out that Sister Owsley is allergic to gluten, lactose, pomegranate, & coconut. So like everything basically haha Jimmy was like, "You might as well die now." ;P The 1st couple days were hard with the major diet change but its getting a lot easier and we both can feel the difference. I can't believe I am actually starting to enjoy eating healthy haha :) Plus we have been able to work so much more because she hasn't been sick. I am not a good person to keep at home, I go stir crazy, and yeah... Anywho our drive with the Ippolitos & Hank was fantastic. Its amazing how we can feel the love Christ has for them, which makes us love them even more! Love is what softens hearts. Love is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jimmy calls me his daughter and I call him (say in Italian accent) Mi Papa! Oh! I gotta tell you something hilarious, so we ate at a hibachi grill, those places are way cool, well the Japanese guy um... it was probably the most awkward moment on my mission ever... The guy, our cook, kept um... hitting on me... he kept asking to be my (Asian accent here) "boyfrien." I was like ".... eh.... I am on a mission." He was like, "I go on mission for you baby. Who you on mission for baby?" Me, "For Jesus..." (Owsley, Hank, the Ippolitos kept edging him on, they were just rolling over my extreme embarrassment) Japanese guy "No baby, you on mission to my heart." Me "...." I looked over at everyone laughing way hard and then this guy was like, ya know cooking my food, made my rice into a heart and kept not giving me my food, I can't believe how awkward that was... finally lunch was over and then of course no one could let it go, well we then came out of the gas station and Jimmy & Hank ran up to me (with their eyes all Asian like) and were like, "Sister Coats Sister Coats, me your boyfrien, boyfrien!" Man, even though this was the most embarrassing experience on my mission it was a blessing in disguise because the ippolitos and Hank seemed to love me even more. So yeah. Oh! We asked Jimmy if he thought he'd ever thought he'd be driving around 2 Mormons his reply, "HELL NO!" So great haha :) And guess what, Jimmy isn't atheist anymore! OH YEAH! :D

Arlene came to church this week!!!! & When we were visiting Fay she told us, "God must've known I needed you girls." Talk about hitting my heart! I am so grateful that we have been able to help her in anyway! <3 <3 <3 We taught the wasylow girls and the Fullmers came with. Their mom was sick but their dad was there. We invited him to sit in (he isn't a member) we taught the restoration, he shared an experience he had when he went on a FFA trip and they visited Carthage jail. He explained the humble feelings he had, Brother Fullmer explained how that was the spirit. Before the lesson we planned with the Fullmers on points they specifically would teach, that extra planning made a world of a difference. When we taught with the Fullmers, the spirit was there, we were in unity, and brother Wasylow felt the truth of the message we had to share. It was a miracle for him to have even sat in on the lesson and another miracle for him to even listen to what we had to say. As we all testified so did Brother Wasylow. It was a miracle.  He is going to read the Book of Mormon and has a sincere desire to learn more. It was amazing. He is the leader of their home and him being interested in the gospel is a major step for the entire family. Sister Owsley & I after our lesson did a party dance in the Fullmers car, we said a thank you prayer with them and we all felt that we did what the Lord wanted us to do. Brother Wasylows daughters follow his example and I know that if he truly seeks the truth, he will find it, and his family will follow.
We had a missionary fireside yesterday, President Curtis came. It was so awesome! We were all afraid that not many people would come, but we had a full house and the members needed what President had to say. I am so grateful for him and his wife! They are sincere in all they do. All the speakers were so inspired. Sister Sayer gave the most amazing talk! She was mad at us for recommending her name but man, she nailed it! ;) We are all part of His work. We have to all work together and I think we forget how big of an impact the small things have. We are all missionaries. There are people out there praying for what we have. Praying for someone to share the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Praying for you to share it with them. <3 Something I realized this week... I was happy without the knowledge (or having an understanding) of the gospel but I had no idea how much I was missing, I didn't know how much happier I could be, and that's what we are trying to help others see. Most people here are okay and happy with what they have, they just don't know how much happier they can be, the peace they are burning for, the joy of the gospel is eternal. Its beyond price. I am so grateful to now have this knowledge and I feel honored to share it with others. I know He lives, I know the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored and I know He hears my prayers. Elder David A. Bednar taught that “fear is dispelled through a correct knowledge of and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.” We have the gospel of Jesus Christ and how blessed are we!? And how blessed are we to share it with others!? :)
Btw Sister Owsley and I studied patience in Preach my Gospel this morning & this hit me; "Patience is the capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious... Patience is related to hope and faith - you must wait for the Lord's promised blessings to be fulfilled." I am learning to endure joyfully with some struggles I have been facing.
I can't believe I am 13 months out now... I want to be a missionary forever! Scripture of the Day Isaiah 41:13"For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee."  I am facing trials that before I didn't think I would ever really go through but I know who I trust and I know who's I am. <3

Poor Bunny

WARNING: LONG EMAIL

Wasn't Conference awesome! ~Owsley said thats my word, "Awesome!" She quotes me in a valley girl voice like, "Awesome!" Its great haha Conference was so uplifting. We got to watch it with the Summers, Fay, Ivies, and man, so fun & spiritual! We played conference bingo and colored and ate too many cadberry eggs! :) I thought it was super neat how Uchtdorf talked about Grace, I've had a lot of questions about it and I think I'm starting to see a clearer picture. For example Repentance is something we do because we want to change, the more I come to understand Christ's infinite grace the more I want to repent/change for Him. I want to give my heart more fully to Him. Like Uchtdorf said, "His grace allows & enables us to overcome sin." For me thats a constant everyday battle haha :) Anyway, conference was great and something that hit me was Kevin W. Pearsons talk. He said "Average is the enemy of excellence." & "Daily discipleship will determine our eternal destiny." Those statements made me think how I don't want to be average, I don't want to just be a good disciple some days, I want to be an extraordinary disciple each and every day! :) Also! I think the biggest focus of conference for me was FAMILY! I am so grateful to know that families can be together forever, that my family can be together forever, and that He has a prepared a way for us to live as families forever in his presence. For me, it is so much easier to follow the commandments, be more motivated, when I think of my family. When I think that I will someday have the opportunity to teach my future children to dance to the music of the Lord, I can't help but be so grateful to know that families are forever. That the relationships we build now can last forever in eternal bliss. He Loves us! Man! It blows my mind! He loves us! I wish I could portray the feelings of my heart into the words I am trying to write, but words can't explain this feeling of knowing HE LOVES US. He lives us, He is with us if we allow Him to be, He will never give up on us.

Sister Owsley and my relationship is getting better everyday. We have lots of funny moments and spiritual ones too. I'm trying to be open with her so she can be open with me but at the same time I feel like I am being more open than she is and putting myself out there and getting shut down, what I mean by that is she still seems to have a wall up that I can't break through... Maybe I shouldn't be so open. I don't know. I just want her to know she can trust me and that I love her. Something that has helped  us I think, I have been making her bed in the morning, silly but it does help! Hehe :) She never makes her bed so hey, I make it for her! :P Another great thing that has helped our relationship is our decision to get closer to Christ, together. I believe we all can still bring ourselves closer to Him. We've been trying to build our faith in Christ together and by doing so we have built a stronger friendship and level of trust. I really wish Sister Owsley could see herself the way I see her, the way the Lord see's her, the amazing sister she is. :)

Oh! Something awesome that happened this week was we were able to set up times to contact referrals with members, set a few appointments and Fay Hansen isn't less active anymore! She is getting ready for the temple! That was an awesome change to write on the progress record! :D

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. My testimony was strengthened on how Christ truly does live. He lives. I know that He lives, I am quicker to forget that truth than I am to remember it, but I believe that after this spiritual Easter that will change. As my testimony grows, I've recognized a change in myself, and I've seen my heart & others hearts soften. I know He lives, I can feel it. I am so grateful to know this beautiful truth. He lives for you and me. He lives for us.

I feel like I'm missing something... but I'm tired... we got to go branding for the last time since its not allowed anymore, anywho, I got into it but at the same time it was quite awkward for us because it seemed like all the single guys in Mackay were there and um... yeah... they are nice guys, yep okay enough said. Haha Have a wonderful week everyone! Happy Easter!

Scripture of the Day Jeremiah 29:13 "And ye shall see me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
My Challenge to you... He lives. Find Him.

Sister Coats

PS: Thank you mom for the Easter Surprise! When the Summers gave us your easter baskets and then played "He has risen now" and you were singing it.... I busted up into tears. <3 I couldn't hold it in! This was the happiest Easter of my life! I have never felt so close to my Savior and loved my family so much! I love you Mom! Thank you! <3

I'm Staying in Mackay!

I'm staying in Mackay! Yay! I'm glad I get to stay! I can't believe at the end of this transfer I will have been here for 1/2 my mission! (9 months!) :) & Sister Owsley is still my companion! :) She is great. She was sad this week... her sadness made her physically sick... I know how that feels. It hurt to watch her hurt. I tried to support her any way I could. As I prayed for her and how I could help I felt that what I needed to do most was get her out of bed. I prayed for the courage to do that and to do it in a loving way because I really do know how she feels when you just can't get up and you don't want to, and for no reason at all except that you are sad. So I promised her that if we just went to work and if she didn't start feeling better we could come right back home. I could tell she wasn't pleased with me getting her out of bed haha but that's what I felt I needed to do, so I did it... We went to work. Her countenance changed over the day, she started to look better, started to smile, and laugh! She has the cutest laugh! And as we worked, we both felt happier. We got 3 new investigators, the spirit testified to what we had to say and more than anything I think me acting on what the Lord told me to do, brought Sister Owsley and I closer together. That night she even thanked me for getting her out of bed. :D We established a level of trust that I know we couldn't have achieved if we had just stayed at home. I hope she knows she has a friend in me. Yes we have our differences and I know I have imperfections... lots of them... and I am learning to take what she has to say with love. "Rath unfed by denial will starve and die." Bishop Summers said that and maybe Shakespeare hehe :) Sister Owsley is such a wonderful Sister Missionary and I am excited to see how we can continue to grow over this next transfer. I know she is needed here!
Sister Owsley and I have both had an extremely hard weeks. I got a blessing from Brother Anderson. Which was weird because I didn't want one, I am really good at not asking for help even if I really do need it. Well, we had dinner with the Andersons, I felt I should ask for a blessing, pushed it away like I'm just imagining all this... 10 miles later, Owsley was like, "Just call brother Anderson." I called him and yep, we turned around and went straight back. He said that he felt I needed a blessing too. Isn't that cool?! We both had the same thought! The blessing I received was perfect. I know the priesthood is real. Our Heavenly Father knows us perfectly and how lucky are we to know that worthy & righteous men hold that power to act in God's name! Brother Anderson was an instrument in the Lords hands for me. He was the Lords mouth piece and I was reminded that I am loved and I am important. :) We are all important to God and His plan.
Yesterday! Sister Summers gave me a hug from my mom <3 Man I really miss my mom... I always miss her... some days just a lot a lot more than others... but that hug was perfect. I needed that so bad especially after such a hard week. I got that hug before Sacrament and then Bishop Williams got up shared his testimony and said, "I don't know why I need to say this but I had a dream that my mom gave me a hug last night." That brought me to tears because I could feel that Heavenly Father was telling me that He hears my prayers, cry, and pleas. For me, that was an answer to my prayers. After Bishop Williams said amen, the pressure was on....My heart was beating through my chest, I stood up, then Sister Tew got the mic! I sat next to the glowing green exit sign and I mean really, out of all places to sit... I looked up at that glowing sign and thought, "I can get out of this.. I can pretend I just need to go to the bathroom or something..." Then I looked around and quickly realized it was too late... I moved and so I was next haha Any who, I shared my testimony in sacrament meeting! (thats the 2nd time I've ever done that!) And what a testimony builder it was for me to share my testimony. I could feel the spirit so strong, I couldn't hold back the tears. :) I am so grateful for my Mother up above and here on earth. I know they love me and I want me to succeed. I know my Heavenly Father loves me because He gave me my mom. I know the family is of God. I pray to be a good Mom someday. To change someone's heart the way my mom changed mine. I want to teach my children to pray the way she taught me.
~Plus! After I shared my testimony, Macy got up and shared hers! She has never done that before! So if nothing else, me getting the courage to stand up gave her the courage to do the same. It was an awesome moment for me. One I will treasure forever. To hear a little girl, one I got to help bring to the gospel and to the knowledge of our Savior, share her testimony to a room filled with people. She ran over to us right after she said amen and hugged us, it was beautiful. We weren't the only ones in that hug from Macy. Doctrine & Covenants 62:3 "Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for the angels to look upon; and they rejoice over you, and your sins are forgiven you." We could feel their rejoices!
I know we are children of Heavenly Parents who love us. We are never alone in this world. We don't have to run this race alone. We are not running by ourselves. Our savior is running every step of the way with us. I know what I said is true and I pray that you may find out for yourself if its true too. He lives. He lives and because He lives, He is with us. He hears us, He comforts us, and He loves us.

Sister Coats
PS: We had dinner with some of our investigators, they were wasted and wanted to cuddle... My thought process during that awkward moment... "uh Sister Missionary here" hahah! We saw another moose in which at first sister Owsley didn't see so I turned on the brights, she screamed, "DONT GET CLOSER!" Me, "I'm just showing you where he is!" It was great. Another funny moment, old ladies totally get away with being bluntly honest. Fay showed us her genealogy book, came across a picture of an ex-daughter in law and she said, "None of us liked her." It was so funny because she didn't say it rude she said it in a "matter of fact" type of way! Haha :)
Oh! And we got to help artificially inseminate cows today. Yes you heard me right... we got to be baby makers (in a sense? :P)
These pictures.... I'm a real Idahoan! (say the way pinnocio says it haha) #growdy #OnlyInMackay (&leslie) :P
